Helping Wildly Busy Women Find Their Natural Ease With Gentle Yoga

You probably don't expect your yoga teacher to be living with an energy-limiting chronic illness and clinical OCD, but here I am, helping busy, burnt-out women because of it!

Yoga is for everyone, and anyone can benefit from the authentic traditions of a lived yoga practice, but tired women with dreams beyond their energy limits? Yoga was made for you.

I've experienced firsthand just how much yoga can change your life if you're not afraid to lean into your limits and work with what you've got...

That’s why I help women like you through Wildly Gentle Yoga. I bring you the ancient yogic wisdom that wild women have been relying on for centuries, all in bitesize, accessible and low-effort moments.

Exactly the kind of practices I've lived and breathed for the last 6 years, as a yoga teacher and ecotherapist.

/// My Journey Into Wildly Gentle Yoga ///

You might think this sounds like a familiar story but bear with me. For years, I lived the hustle. I worked in content marketing, building strategies, chasing deadlines, and measuring my worth by productivity. From the outside, everything looked fine because I was doing what other people wanted me to do. Unfortunately, I started to get sick. Mentally and physically.

Small problems turned into big ones and over the next year I was diagnosed with a chronic gut illness that severely impacts my energy levels in flares, followed by a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that made my mind a very unpleasant place to be.

Things weren't going to plan, and I couldn't pretend to fit in with the societal norms anymore, even if I'd wanted to. Physical activity, work, socialising... I had to find a way to manage it all with a mind and body that didn't work the way I wanted them to.

Living Wild In My Jeep...

I took a leap of faith and decided to walk away from the corporate world and embrace slow living. I went self-employed, invested every penny I had in holistic specialist care the NHS refused me, and spent six months living out of my converted jeep with my dog.

Living in my old 4x4, I drove to Cornwall, the Peak District, Wales, the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Norfolk coastline, just about everywhere with everything I owned and needed in the back of the Jeep. It wasn’t always easy, but it finally felt like I could live at my own pace.

I learned so much about what it means to truly live in alignment with my own human nature, how to listen to the world and people around me and trust my instincts. One day, I felt ready to make that natural wisdom official. I started a 2-year long ecotherapy training course.

I was dogsitting to save up for more travels when the ecotherapist certification email came through at last, and cried with joy surrounded by animals.

Teaching Authentic Yoga Gently...

Throughout that part of my life I was getting more of the help I needed, and so I had the space to dive deeper into the work I wanted to do to help others, the dream I'd held close to my chest. I wanted to help other women truly nourish their bodies, minds, and souls through yoga.

I'd already achieved my 200-hour yoga teacher accreditation, as yoga has always been a part of my life. But I wanted to help people like me more completely, so I trained and qualified as a 500-hour certified yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance.

As I'd experienced so much firsthand benefit from meditation and counselling myself, I followed the call to study the science of meditation and the mind even more, and earned a Diploma in Meditation Coaching, squeezing in my studies between small jobs and chronic illness flares.

The skills and tools I've ended up with are more practical and essential than I ever thought they would be. I learned how to cultivate a natural ease no matter my situation, which is exactly what I want to share with you.

Building My Off-Grid Tiny Home...

And of course I couldn't imagine myself living in a typical home while I did this, and I couldn't afford that either! Nope, I had a dream of living tiny.

Over the span of around 4 years, I built my own off-grid tiny house on wheels in the UK.

And I mean we literally built it from the ground up with our own hands. I learned the ins and outs of building and off-grid living. Framing, plumbing, electrics, solar power, rainwater collection, composting toilets, all to create a home that was fully aligned with the naturally gentle way of life I knew I needed.

Living offgrid in a tiny home means I'm always close to nature, and can focus my energies on what matters most to me. Which happens to be helping exhausted women replenish themselves with yoga that's rooted in the real world.

The kind of support I wish I'd had from the beginning...

"I have a disability that means I can't get up and down off the floor easily and it makes me dizzy. Gemma's yin yoga class was ideal because I could stay reclined the whole time and still move and stretch my body."

-Sarah A.

"Gemma did such a good job of showing us what all the different yoga philosophies meant in practice. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and have mentioned to my whole book club so we'll see you next time! Thanks very much."
